RAF Role

Join the Royal Air Force (RAF) and you’ll join an organisation that makes a difference. In trouble spots around the globe, the RAF helps police the skies, enforces international law and brings aid and protection to the victims of disaster and relief. In the UK, we are defenders of UK airspace and, in our mountains and around our coastlines, provide a lifeline to those who need it in time of emergency.

To fulfil these vital roles, we need highly motivated people throughout our organisation. Aircrew; Engineering and Technical; Catering and Hospitality; Force Protection; Medical and Medical Support; Personnel Support; Air Operations Support; Communications and Intelligence; Logistics and Equipment. These are the areas of work on offer in the RAF. There are over 50 different individual careers available within them and we are RECRUITING NOW for most of them.

You could patrol the area around an airfield to deter enemy ground attacks as a Gunner, or join as a Chef and prepare meals for our personnel. You could become an Information and Communications Systems Specialist to operate and maintain equipment form tactical satellite systems to airfield radars, or support IT users on our vases around the UK. You could be a Weapon Systems Operator and fly for a living or, if you have the necessary qualifications, you could become an Engineering Officer and work with cutting-edge technology.

With jobs available ranging from no formal qualifications needed to those requiring degrees and/or other professional qualifications, we believe there is something for everyone and each job would see you play a key role in one of the world’s most advanced military forces.

Whichever job you choose to do, you’ll gain professional skills and qualifications. We want our personnel to be as well qualified, if not better than, people doing an equivalent job outside the RAF because this will equip you to work both in the UK and overseas. In the RAF you’ll be stretched and challenged every day of the week. It may sound like hard work, but you’ll get all the training and support you’ll need as well as a generous pay and benefits package and 6 weeks paid holiday a year. You’ll also have access to over 100 adventurous activities, from mountaineering to skiing and scuba diving to sailing. The RAF will support you while you do them, both financially and with training.

If you like the sound of this and are looking for challenge, adventure and excitement then contact us now and/or click on the link above to view some of the careers in which there are currently vacancies.

RAF careers could be based anywhere in the UK, please ensure you are fully aware before applying - are you up for the Challenge?

“My name is Danni. I’m from Rainhill near Liverpool. At the beginning of this year, I decided to join the Royal Air Force. My transition from civilian life to military life started at my local Armed Forces Career Office. They gave me all the information I needed in order to choose the right career. The trade I chose was the RAF police. I then sat selection tests, attended a medical, completed a fitness test then attended an interview. Successful, my training was about to start.

Basic training began for me in February of this year, at Royal Air Force Halton. It tested me both, mentally and physically, at times pushing me to my limits. Whether it was working hard in one of the many fitness sessions, cramming for exams in ground defence training, learning weapon handling and survival techniques or even preparing kit for the next day’s inspection. Everyday was different, teaching me everything I need to know. Recruit training helped build my self confidence, developed my ability to work within a team and gave me a sense of discipline.

During training, I met some amazing people, recruits and staff alike. I’ve made some friends that I’ll know for the rest of my life. Colleagues and staff, together they definitely get you through it. You can’t fault the help and support you are given throughout the entire course, from the day you walk into the AFCO, to the day you graduate.

Recruit training is tough, but it’s exciting. I had never experienced anything like it before. Looking back now I’m very proud of what I have achieved. It’s made me the individual I am today; I now look forward to my second phase of training, then embarking on what I hope to be a very long career in the Royal Air Force.”
