| New Job: Design Manager Job Location: Glasgow Job Salary: £32k - £45k + car, health, pension, bonus (flex ben) My client is an international practice of multidisciplinary consulting engineers with a worldwide reputation for innovation and quality. The firm is widely acknowledged to be at the leading edge of the construction industry, contributing to numerous complex and high profile projects. Due to continued expansion, the Glasgow office needs to recruit a key individual in a design manager capacity. The practice are keen on securing a talented individual: - To own and manage project support and administrative activity affording the engineering team maximum time and focus on the design of client solutions in line with the agreed scope of work/letter of engagement. - Optimising the opportunity for project profitability in a positive client environment - Identifying and converting opportunities for extending the scope for further fee paying work outside the original terms of engagement - Minimising the opportunity for project process failure The design manager role can/will include: Single Project, Multi-discipline Role - Preparing, monitoring and responding to programmes to ensure sufficient time is allocated for the engineers to complete a design - Ensuring specialist disciplines attend appropriate meetings and have necessary background to integrate seamlessly to deliver a holistic service - Attending client meetings as a single representative and feeding back to discipline job leaders - Being available as a first point of contact for the client and any third parties (building control officer, specialist consultants, utilities etc) to answer questions and queries on the design - or to obtain the answer from the relevant member of the team - Maintaining the PDS; monitoring fee spend against planned; ensuring fair fee splits between disciplines; advise job leaders on appropriate percentage complete figures - Agreeing invoice schedules with client and raising invoices as appropriate - Ensuring that QA procedures are in place; that design reviews are carried out; that environmental checklists are completed; that H&S information is issued - Preparing monthly reports to the client on activities carried out (to accompany invoice) - Manage the input and payment of any sub-consultants - Monitoring fee spend against planned for a whole group, identifying potential problem projects - Able to coordinate the delivery of projects - managing internal resources, the consultant appointment and the delivery of design - Prepare the case for additional fee claims in conjunction with project leaders as needed - Prepare resource plans for individual projects, or for groups of projects / people as needed - Support the group manager in planning resource allocation for the whole group - Ensure that invoices are being raised in a timely manner - Ensure that QA and H&S procedures are being followed - Troubleshoot difficult clients or projects The right person will come from a civil engineering/design background and have experience in innovative design. The right person will be chartered or working towards chartership (MICE or IstructE).
